Marius aka Marsman, a Chartered Accountant by profession but a Gamer at heart...

My parents got divorced when I was very young. I struggled to be socially more active with other kids because I felt like I was inferior to them. I think a lot of kids today and people can relate. So I didn’t like talking to people at all when I was young and my mother decided to get me a playstation 2 when I was 7. I didn’t even know what it was but since that day my life changed completely. I found a subject I can talk to with other kids and I got interactive in the real world as well.

I always played casual games my entire life. Will have friends over and then we’d play call of duty up until when I was the age of 14. That’s when I switched to pc. I played all the Total War Saga’s and until today I still play them from time to time. I discovered Dota in 2014 when I was 16 years old. It was such a fun game and I enjoyed it a lot. The in depth the game went intrigued me. I then met some people who taught me the game more in depth and especially the Hard carry role because they said I have the calm and patience for it. That is when I started playing competitive Dota. About a year after that I played a pub and I told the randoms playing with me :”Offlane don’t feed, getting tired of it, but as a joke”. Then the guy who was playing offlane said:” Dude you don’t know me. I’m a god.” I laughed and was like yeah we’ll see. The position four (Who is actually a mid) made a lot of comments throughout the game. We won our game quite easily and we decided to party up. That’s how I met Lyalle and Kenan. Since then I played games with them. We started competitively and haven’t stopped since.

I think what makes it so special to me is the fact that I actually went to Port Elizabeth to meet them. That’s when I realised the power of E-Sports. Through a game I made friends that will probably stick for live. Regardless of our backgrounds or culture or race. I would say playing games is what will brings people more together than physical sports cause you can participate in it. That’s why I have such a passion for games and e-Sports. I really want to advance the e-Sports scene in South-Africa to give more people this life changing experience and the chance to change their perspective of a lot of things.
